Visualizing Music: 20 - 20.000
This project transforms sound into visual art. It focuses on visualizing music through frequencies ranging from 20 to 20.000 Hz. Instead of activating a speaker, as is common when converting sound into audible tones, small motors are driven in this installation.
These motors are connected to various drawing instruments such as pens, markers, spray cans or crayons. When a specific frequency is picked up, it causes a surge of electricity that sets the corresponding motor in motion. The result is a series of movements that depend on the frequency captured.
Each frequency creates its own unique movements and thus its own drawing. Pens and markers move across the surface, spray cans create splashes and crayons create flowing lines. These patterns are a direct translation of the music. The variation in frequencies leads to a continuously changing work of art.
